The Fine Grind In Little Falls Brews Up More Than Just Coffee

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. -- Rhonda Mallek, who owns The Fine Grind in Little Falls with her husband, Jon, credits her business's 10-plus years of success to the fact that it's more than just a coffee house.

"We're a part of the community," she said. "Whether it's coming here for down time, to socialize with friends, or to work, we offer a place for people to come to do 'whatever.'"

And that includes live music and other events like book signings, open mic nights and seminars. Not to mention the food -- items like soup, salad, paninis, muffins and other pastries including gluten free options.

Coffee, is, of course, forms the business backbone, with cappuccinos, espresso lattes and more part of the barista lineup. Mallek said they work with a local roaster who roasts in small batches, ensuring drinks are fresh and flavorful with every sip.

The house coffee blend is always on hand, as are a rotating line up of organic and Fair Trade specialty coffees. Being served now: a gingerbread hot chocolate, egg nog latte, Yule Tide Java (chocolate and peppermint with hot coffee, Christmas sprinkles and a candy cane), and The Fro-Ho-Ho (frozen hot chocolate).

"What's nice is that even if people cut back, we're an affordable luxury," said Mallek, a Woodlake Park resident. "You can go out, get a nice drink and a treat and it's not that much money."

The Fine Grind is at 101 Newark Pompton Tpke, Little Falls, (973) 837-0199, www.thefinegrindcoffeebar.com/.
