The event, taking place on the grounds of the Forum School on Wyckoff Avenue, runs six days and ends Saturday night.
The carnival is open 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday and Saturday. On those nights, a $25 wristband gets a person on any ride as often as he or she likes.
On Wednesday and Friday, the carnival features fireworks only at 9:30 p.m., according to Greg Bjork, Waldwick Lion Club member.
“It’s a lot of work to plan this,” said Mike Fanning of Hawthorne, carnival chair. “We’ll start planning the next one as soon as this one is over.
“I always remembered this carnival as a kid growing up in Waldwick,” he added, “and it’s just an honor to be working with the group of people running it now.”
Last year the carnival took in $107,000 and netted $35,000, Fanning said.
Volunteers from the Waldwick Lions Club, the Waldwick’s Club for Women, Boy Scouts, and private residents make the carnival possible, according to Bjork.
“All the money we raise here goes to different charities,” he said. “It could be for juvenile diabetes. It could be to install a ramp in a house for somebody in need.”
The Waldwick Lions Club was formed in 1955.
