Your First Mud Run at Garret Mountain Reservation will donate seven dollars from every athlete that registers on the Madison Holleran Foundation Team toward the charity.
The foundation was formed in the memory of the late Madison Holleran, a 19-year-old Northern Highlands Regional High School track standout who lived in Allendale.
She was battling depression while attending the University of Pennsylvania when she leaped to her death from the top of a parking garage in Philadelphia’s Center City on Jan. 17, 2014.
New Jersey made the “Madison Holleran Suicide Prevention Act” law on Monday. It requires colleges to provide 24/7 suicide prevention assistance from trained mental health professionals.
The foundation helps those in crisis situations and works to prevent suicides, which are the second-leading cause of death on college campuses.
Your First Mud Run, scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Sunday, is organized by the Wyckoff-based Sports Conditioning Institute.
The event is the only one in the country designed to be used by children who are at least six years old and their parents.
The courses, which are perfect for first-timers, are one-and-a-half to two miles long and include 10 to 16 obstacles.
Garret Mountain Reservation is located at 1 Mountain Ave., Woodland Park.
