WEST MILFORD, N.J. -- There's a lot of activity going on at Bear Swamp Farm. It's tree season, after all.

Allison Hosford, who manages the West Milford property with her husband, Roger Knight, said they already had a busy weekend the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving and expect that to continue in the days leading up to Christmas.

The farm is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (until the trees run out) and offers cut your own Firs and Spruces along with pre-cut options. In addition to trees, the farm's gift shop sells handmade fresh garland, wreaths, and bundles of fresh cut boughs. Guests will also find pottery, Christmas ornaments and other one-of-a-kind items, most made by locals.

Hosford admits she enjoys this time of year -- despite the fact that she works practically non-stop until just before Christmas.  "I love it," she said of the crazy holiday season. "I get to see people I only see once a year -- we have three generations coming here now -- plus everyone's just in a happy mood."

It's also, she said, a place where memories are made. "I remember myself and my siblings planting the first trees," she said. "Now, there are 13 of us and they all come here year after year to help."

Bear Swamp Farm is located at 81 Otterhole Road, West Milford, (973) 697-2541 , www.bearswampfarmnj.com.
