Clifton's Rutt's Hut Franks Strive For DVlicious Win

CLIFTON, N.J. -- The classic hot dog, in all its bronzed, charred perfection, holds a special place in the hearts – and stomachs -- of most Americans, especially come summer. July, in fact, is National Hot Dog Month, thanks to the designation by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

Frank Talk: It's gotta be the relish.

"I use it as a dip," said Nicki Hotra of West Milford. "I dip my french fries in it. I get my money's worth."

"The mustard and the relish are phenomenal," added Michael Potoczak of Totowa, who enjoyed two rippers and fries on his lunch break. "And the hot dogs are the best."

Top This: Rutt's Hut has been around since 1928. It's currently a family owned business.

Employee Bill Chrisafinis said it's enjoyed long term success because of the two "R's": Relish and rippers.

The establishment has been featured on PBS, Food Network, and the Travel Channel. Rutt's Hutt also previously won our DVlicious contest for best fries.

Sadly, Co-Owner John Karagiorgis, 45 – whose father purchased the eatery in 1975 – died of a massive heart attack in June.
