Have A 'Lucky' Day On Friday The 13th

Most people in the United States view it as an unlucky date, but elsewhere, Friday the 13th is considered to be a day of good fortune.

Friday the 13th is coming this week. May 13 is the only time the event will occur in 2016.

Regardless of your personal feelings on the date, it's coming this week and there's nothing you can do to avoid it.

According to the website timeanddate.com, people who fear Friday the 13th suffer from friggatriskaidekaphobia. Some have such a fear that they're afraid to even utter the words "Friday the 13th."

In Christian cultures, some believe the negative feelings associated with the day can be traced back to a handful of separate events, according to timeanddate.com. Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus, has long been considered "the 13th guest" at the Last Supper, for example. Other significant events in the Bible are believed to have occurred on a Friday, including the flood involving Noah, the confusion of languages at the Tower of Babel, Eve's temptation of Adam and the crucifixion of Christ.

Others, though, embrace the day.

Citing a report from CNN, timeanddate.com said a British couple once won $17 million with a lotto ticket they purchased on Friday the 13th.

In ancient times, the Egyptians believed the number 13 to be lucky because the 13th stage of life was related to the afterlife.

This week's Friday the 13th is the only time the notorious "holiday" will be celebrated in 2016.
