Sam's Bagel & Deli In Wayne Ranks Among DVlicious Bagel Finalists

WAYNE, N.J. -- It’s impossible to live here and not have a bagel opinion. The New York area, as everyone knows, is the bagel capital of the world. And yes, it’s worth waiting in line on a Sunday morning to get one of these doughy wonders fresh out of the oven. Toasting, as a bagel purist knows, is not necessary when you buy the very best.

The everything and pumpernickel bagels at Sam's are crowd-pleasers.

We asked for your favorites and now have three contestants in the running. Each is being profiled this week as part of our ongoing DVlicious contest. Here’s the lowdown on one who made the cut.

Sam’s Bagel & Deli, 677 Paterson Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne, (973) 790-0135

What Makes Them Bagelicious: This place is a haven for college students attending William Paterson University right up the road. Why pay $4 for a soggy piece of pizza, when you can get a fresh bagel with ham and cheese, or a heaping scoop of homemade whitefish salad? The bagels are big and fat and have just the right amount of chewiness. As for the poppy seed, salt, or "everything" varieties, the toppings are always just right and you never get a naked one, say Sam’s fans.

Crazy Flavors: The Swiss cheese and jalapeno bagels seem to go over well with the younger crowd. As far as spreads go, besides the traditional cream cheese, you can get chocolate chip, sundried tomato, olive, and walnut raisin.

Reminder: The contest ends Monday, April 25 at 5 p.m. You can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
