Elmwood Park Brothers Invent Phone-Based Walkie-Talkie For Great Outdoors

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. – Two brothers from Elmwood Park are looking to make it big with Motorola and Indiegogo – and their own smarts, of course – with their invention of a smart walkie-talkie that snaps onto Motorola Moto Z and other smartphones that use Bluetooth.

Elmwood Park brothers Robert and Hermes Jimenez have created a smart walkie-talkie, and they hope to win further backing through the Motorola "Transform the Smartphone Challenge."

Robert and Hermes Jimenez are offering their creation for preorder, even while they compete in Motorola's "Transform the Smartphone Challenge."

The contest is spurring developers to create "Moto Mods," which "snap onto any Moto Z to give it a whole new superpower," Robert said. "They transform your phone allowing it to do things other phones can't."

Whether you are an admirer of the outdoors who enjoys mountain climbing, hiking, walks on the beach, vacationing on a cruise ship, participating in other outdoor activities in areas with or without cellular coverage, or require a two-way device for work in the field, the Linc Smart Walkie-Talkie is a must-have device for your communication needs. The walkie-talkie connects for up to 5-6 miles in all types of terrains in or out of the city and country for reliable and safe communication.

The two brothers own the company Fantom Dynamics, which specializes in modular systems.

Robert said it's "an absolute honor" to have been chosen to participate in this challenge.

Competitors are crowdfunding development through Indiegogo, and the Jimenez brothers are offering special pricing for early supporters, including a limited number of Linc Smart Walkie-Talkie Moto Mods, for $99.

As of Monday afternoon, people had already bought 26 of the 50 units on offer in the featured package, as well as 19 units in other packages.

All of the campaigns will be reviewed on March 6, and finalists will be chosen on March 10. In April, the finalists will come to Moto HQ, in Chicago, to pitch their ideas – and potentially receive national distribution by Verizon, online promotion by Motorola and investment by Lenovo Capital.

Other features include its internal battery that allows extended talk time without using the smartphone battery, an internal loudspeaker and peer-to-peer positioning, so users' positions appear on-screen.

Robert added that their device has myriad uses beyond recreation, with business uses including manufacturing, mining, retail, security, education and event planning.

"This is not a bulky or complicated radio system and unlike other walkie-talkies, its slim design is stylish and lightweight and barely changes the look of the typical smartphone."
