A politician and lawyer, he was born in Passaic on Aug. 20, 1942 and turns 75 on Saturday.
Butterworth served as Florida's 33rd Attorney General from 1987-2002 and was once the state's highest ranking Democrat. He resigned over Florida's "resign-to-run laws." He is also a former judge and mayor, and his name frequently came up as a gubernatorial candidate.
After a failed Florida Senate run in 2002, he remained in politics as an influencer and joined the Fort Lauderdale law firm Atkinson Diner.
He has in the past rejected offers of a seat on the Florida state Supreme Court.
