Edelstein was born in Boston, and she was raised in Wayne and graduated from Wayne Valley High School.
She is perhaps best known for her longtime role as Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the medical drama "House." Currently, she stars in the Bravo series "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce."
Edelstein has had roles or guest parts on a wide variety of shows, including "The West Wing," "Ally McBeal," "Frasier," "Judging Amy," and "King of the Hill," and several small parts in films.
She has been a bit of activist throughout her life. When she was 16 and a cheerleader, she organized a strike over a policy of having the cheerleaders stand in bars in their uniforms -- which she said felt "akin to prostitution." She also picketed during the Writers Guild of America strike, in 2007-08.
