PATERSON, N.J. -- More than 200 underprivileged kids received a visit from Santa and his elves on Christmas thanks to Community Outreach Services Inc. of Paterson.
Santa and his associates arrived with sacks of toys supplied by corporate sponsor Huffman Koos, as well as other companies and individuals, making this the most successful toy drive to date, according to a press release.
Anthony Mehran, Huffman Koos chief executive officer an vice president of Community Outreach Services Inc., , attended the festivities as he has done the last eight years.
"I can't think of a better way to start Christmas Day than with the needy children of our community," he said in a press release. "Their utter joy and smiles are truly priceless."
In addition to assisting Santa and his elves, Mehran and other volunteers oversee a year-round food pantry that feeds approximately 250 families per week in the Paterson area.
Community Outreach Services Inc. began in 2006 when the Rev. Wayne Brown took a phone call from a woman who wished to donate a box of food to the hungry. Brown soon realized the extent of hunger and homelessness in the community and accepted the challenge to establish a food ministry.
