PATERSON, N.J. – A Paterson woman is rallying the community for prayers and support for her young brother who remains hospitalized after he fell and hit his head while playing outside.
Samantha Nieves started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her family in Puerto Rico, as her father and step-mother tend to her brother, Jometh Nieves, in the hospital.
“We don't know how long my brother will be in the hospital, so I'm trying to raise money to help my dad, in this time he will be out of work and him and his wife have to go back and forth to take care of my other siblings,” Samantha wrote on the page.
It had garnered nearly $1,400 in donations by Tuesday afternoon.
Samantha wrote that her brother suffered a skull fracture, internal bleeding, and swelling of his brain, and underwent multiple surgeries.
After his last surgery, Samantha gave an update: “His brain is great, the bleeding is under control & now all we have to do is pray for a great recovery,” she wrote.
