Transgender Bergen County Model Honored In Jersey City

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. — Transgender model and activist Carmen Carrera was honored along with two children at the Jersey City Pride Flag Raising and Ceremony Thursday.

The other two honorees were Joe Maldonado, 8, the first transgender boy scout, and Rebekah Bruesehoff, who at one point in her life was overcome by incredible anxiety because she wasn't living her life as a female.

Carrera, born Christopher Roman, appeared on RuPaul's Drag Race as well as its spin-off series RuPaul's Drag U, and came out in 2012.
