WAYNE, N.J. — Henry Catalano, 4, of Wayne, became a guardian angel for many families in northern New Jersey as he persevered through his treatments for a brain tumor.

His aunt, Jenna Triano, came to his side last June to help pay for his medical bills. In six weeks she raised $20,000 through various donations and fundraisers.

From there, the non-profit Henry's Halos was born.

"He's my godson and I figured the best thing I could do is organize some fundraising," Triano told Daily Voice. "It took on a life of its own."

She decided to extend her help to other families for the financial burdens that come with illness. The organization uses different means such as galas or karaoke nights to raise the money, plus other donations.

Toys "R" Us recently offered a shopping spree to one of Henry's Halos' members, a young girl recovering from a liver transplant.

"We didn't want to help only when you're sick though," Triano said. "Once you're in, you're in. It's never been just send a check and never hear from them again. I contact every family we help and stay in touch."

Henry recovered and his aunt said he's now doing great.

Henry's Halos branched out to include family members and siblings of ill children, who are also affected by the ordeal.

Triano said she would like to open a physical location for the organization near Wayne soon to offer more help.

"I want to give them a place where every dollar they donate means something," she said. "Every little thing they do is magnified by a million."
