On April 19, Jenna Wallace was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a form of malignant neoplasm that commonly arises within the salivary glands of the head and neck.
“This date marks day one of the fight to kill this cancer,” Jenna’s sister Merisa, of Wayne, wrote on a GoFundMe page she created to raise funds for her sister’s treatment.
The page had garnered more than $14,000 in donations as of Wednesday morning.
The cancer is not treatable by chemotherapy, and treatment would involve a complex surgery to remove Jenna’s left lung, left bronchus and a portion of her trachea. The surgery may need to be performed out-of-state because it is only done by a few surgeons, and radiation is only possible after surgery.
“We are all researching doctors and hospitals from across the country and working together to decide on the best treatment plan,” Merisa wrote.
Merisa also asked for prayers and positive thoughts “as we all work as a team of support to figure this out.”
“Any monetary donation will go toward treatment plan research, out-of-network medical costs, and potential travel expenses associated with treatment,” she wrote.
