2 Men In Paterson Nazerah Bugg Case Receive Decades In Prison Sentencing

HACKENSACK, N.J. — The first of many men convicted in a gang-related shooting that left a 14-year-old bystander dead were sentenced to prison on Friday in Hackensack's Bergen County Superior Court, NJ.com reports.

Jeavonte Dennis, 19, and Nyje Johnson, 22, were among the nine men and one woman with reputed gang ties who were brought into Superior Court last year because the mother of the victim — International High School basketball standout Nazerah Bugg — works at the Passaic County courthouse in Paterson. Charges against them range from murder to hindering.

Dennis was found guilty of first-degree murder and received a sentence of 45 years in state prison, with a chance of parole after 85 percent of time is served, the article says.

Johnson was found guilty of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and was sentenced to 22 years in state prison, also with a chance of parole after 85 percent of time is served, NJ.com says.
