PATERSON, N.J. — A suspended Paterson firefighter accused of having an Ohio State football ring reported stolen from a fire scene will return to work with $145,961 in back pay, NorthJersey.com reports.
Jose Garcia's criminal indictment case was dismissed by a Superior Court judge in 2015, and he was reinstated as a city firefighter in March 2016, the article says.
Several witnesses alleged seeing Garcia wearing the ring that belonged to Paterson Catholic star Stanley Jackson — an athlete for the Buckeyes in the 1990s, NorthJersey.com says.
The ring was reported missing after Garcia and other firefighters responded to a call at Jackson's mother's house nearly eight years ago, according to NorthJersey.com.
The back pay covers the 18 months between Garcia's suspension until the indictment dismissal, the article says.
