Attack Claims At Least 23 In Brussels Airport Bombing

A suicide attack at the Brussels airport Tuesday morning has claimed at least 23 lives, according to multiple published reports.

Explosions took place outside the security checkpoints and near the airline check-in counters, CNN reported.

All flights in and out of Brussels have been canceled the rest of the day, the airport reported.

"Brussels Airport extends its deepest sympathy to the friends and relatives of the victims of the explosions in the departures hall earlier this morning," airport officials said in a press release. "At 8 a.m. two explosions occurred in the departures hall. The emergency and rescue services are on the scene and are offering the necessary assistance.

All flights at Brussels Airport today are cancelled. Passengers are requested to contact their airline for further instructions.

The airport authorities are asking to avoid the surroundings of the airport.

Passengers present in other zones at the airport are asked to remain calm and to wait until further information is available.

The attack on the European Union capital took place days after the arrest of the arrest of Salah Abdeslam – a suspect in the November Paris terrorist attacks, according to published reports.
