Driver Who Struck Wayne Pedestrian Was Hall Of Fame Cross Country Coach

WAYNE, N.J. – The driver behind the wheel of the van that struck a pedestrian on Valley Road in Wayne Wednesday is a hall of fame cross country coach at Clifton High School, NJ.com reports.

The coach, John Pontes, remained on the scene and was issued a summons for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Wayne police said.

Ryszard Mieliczek, of Passaic, was crossing the street just before 11 a.m. Wednesday when he was hit and critically injured, police said.
