Michael Young, then 50, of Bayville was working on a subpanel at Dealer Tire on Valley Brook Avenue when the accident occurred in June 2012.
He was airlifted to St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston with burns on more than 40 percent of his body after an electrical box flashed while he was doing work on a Lyndhurst tire dealer’s fire suppression system.
“The main electrical box flashed and he was burned,” Lyndhurst Police Chief James O’Connor said .
Emergency workers quickly got Young to the Matera Field landing zone and a copter that whisked him to the hospital.
The incident is being investigated by OSHA and both the Lyndhurst police and building departments.
