Prosecutor: Ex-Hackensack Nurse Charged With Sexually Assaulting 2 Patients

HACKENSACK, N.J. — A former nurse at Hackensack University Medical Center was arrested and charged with sexual assault for two separate incidents involving patients at a hospital emergency room at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, authorities said.

Wilbur Hernandez, 29, of Perth Amboy was arrested on July 13, 2017 and was charged with one count of sexual assault in the second degree and one count of criminal sexual assault in the fourth degree arising from an incident on June 29, 2017 with a 74-year-old female patient, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director of the New Brunswick Police Department Anthony Caputo.

Hernandez was also charged with one count of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree and lewdness, a disorderly persons offense, arising from an incident that occurred on October 13, 2016 involving a 49-year old female patient, authorities said.

He has been suspended from his job pending the outcome of the charges. Hernandez has been employed at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital since July 25, 2016. He is also suspended from his employment at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick and Maxim Healthcare Services in North Brunswick, according to the prosecutor.
