Catherine Ann Van Wyngaarden, 90, Of Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, N.J. -- Catherine Ann Van Wyngaarden, 90, of Hawthorne, died Oct. 20. 

She was born Nov. 3, 1925.

She graduated from Queens College with a degree in education, and was a longtime teacher with the Glen Rock School System, retiring in 2011. She was involved in many organizations, including the College Club, the Women’s Club of Ridgewood, and served as Ttreasurer for the Women’s Guild of the First Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. 

She was an active alumni member of her sorority from Queens College. She was an avid reader who loved being involved with her book club, and she had a great ability to complete difficult crossword puzzles. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde C. Ruffle; second husband, Peter Van Wyngaarden; siblings, George Wicks and Mary Ulrich; and son, William C. Ruffle. 

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Ruffle; and grandchildren, Lisa and Christopher Ruffle.

There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m.Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 722 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, followed by internment at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. Visiting will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave., Ridgewood. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to First Presbyterian Church, 722 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450, would be greatly appreciated.
