Georgia Baziotis, 102, Of Paterson

PATERSON, N.J. — Georgia Baziotis, 102, passed away peacefully July 16, 2016, at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery Center in Jamestown, N.C., in the presence of her daughter.

She was the mother of Kathleen Thompson, married to Jerome, of High Point, N.C. and John Baziotis, married to Barbara, of Ridgewood;  “Yia Yia” to three granddaughters, Moira, Kathleen and Elizabeth and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, Alexandra and James. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Boyas of Fair Lawn; three nieces; and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, with whom she shared a loving marriage of 70 years; sister, Agnes Broogos of Newark; and brothers, Kerry and George Boyas of Fair Lawn.

She moved to Connecticut from Lemnos, Greece at age 5. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Paterson, where she lived until 2005, when she then joined her daughter in High Point, N.C.

She was an active member of St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus and St. George Greek Orthodox Church of High Point.

She and her husband owned and operated a linen supply and laundry business for many years in Paterson.

Baziotis was known for her extraordinary skill in baking Greek pastries and for her ability to make people laugh and enjoy her company.

The family will receive relatives and friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday with a service following at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road, Paramus. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either of the two churches.
