Hawthorne Native Charles ‘Craig’ Arnoldi, 66, Dies

MAHWAH, N.J. – Charles “Craig” Arnoldi of Mahwah died Sunday. He was 66 years old.

Arnoldi, born in Paterson and raised in Hawthorne, owned Commercial Products Company, Inc. in Hawthorne, where he was a skilled chemist and developer. He was also an accomplished musician, and was past president of the Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters and had coached several teams.

Arnoldi became an advocate for suicide awareness and prevention after his 28-year-old son Nicholas committed suicide in 2012. The Arnoldi family has raised thousands of dollars for suicide prevention by participating in annual “Out of the Darkness” walks.

Arnoldi is survived by his wife, Elaine, son Justin Gasida and daughter-in-law Margaret, son Craig Arnoldi and his fiancé Elise, daughter Jessica McClendon and son-in-law Michael, and sister Lynda Mancinelli and brother-in-law Greg. He is also survived by several grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother James, sister Janice, and son Nicholas.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, August 17, at 9:30 a.m. at the Fardale Trinity Church in Mahwah. Friends may visit at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention in memory of Craig's son Nicholas.
