Auld graduated from the U.S. Maritime Cadet Academy and served during World War II with the Merchant Marines. He also served in the Army during the Korean War. While with the U.S. Signal Corps Engineering Laboratories, he headed development of the Army’s first mobile television system.
Three years later he headed technical operations for the first national football games to be broadcast over network TV. He was an engineer with the DuMont television network, helping to produce shows including "The Honeymooners" and "The Les Paul & Mary Ford Show."
Auld also helped develop miliatary products while with Dumont Laboratories -- including the first tank fire control system with night capability and the first Rotary Prism Panoramic Camera for reconnaissance. He held a variety of high managerial positons, and "he was most proud of his positon as CEO and president of North American Philips Broadcast Equipment Corp" information from the funeral home noted.
He also wrote many articles for professional publications; was a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and the American Management Association; and served on the Board of Trustees of the Pascack Valley Hospital Association and the Board of Directors of the Bergen County Chamber of Commerce.
Auld was a lifetime member of both the New York Athletic Club and White Beeches Golf and Country Club. He was also an active member of the Hawthorne Gospel Church, where he served as an usher.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Auld-Morogiello and her husband Dan, Lin Auld-Whalen and her husband Jack, Terry D'Alessandro and her husband Nick, and Janet Mobbs and her husband Dan; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Auld was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Blanche (Peabody) Auld, and his second and third wives, Carol Pistilli-Auld and Emily Batluck-Auld.
A funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 8, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., in Wyckoff. Memorial donations can be made to
