Edrian Peguero was driving a vehicle when a gunman pulled up outside 75 Lafayette Street at 7:30 p.m. and “shot from another car and hit him in the neck,” a law enforcement source with knowledge of the incident told Daily Voice.

It began a violent spree that included three more shootings in a span of a little over eight hours, authorities said.

That made 20 reported shootings over 31 days in Paterson. In addition to the five victims slain, 21 others were wounded, police said.

This year, 12 shooting victims were killed and 56 reported injured in the city as of Monday.

Police also found an AK-47 that wasn’t connected to any of the four shootings late Sunday into overnight Monday

The second victim, a 21-year-old Bronx man, was fired on more than 20 times on Paterson Avenue just before 10 p.m., the source said. Authorities said he was in critical condition at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

The third victim, 21 and from Paterson, was shot in the hand just before 4 a.m. near the corner of Park Avenue and East 18th Street, authorities said.

Less than an hour later, a 27-year-old Perth Amboy woman was struck in the foot by a bullet possibly intended for an acquaintance near the corner of Main and Green streets, they said.
