Arrest Made, DEA Responds To Parking Lot Meth Lab In Wayne

WAYNE, N.J. -- A local restaurant employee was taken into custody and the Passaic County Bomb Squad was summoned Wednesday night after Wayne detectives said they caught him cooking methamphetamine in his car in a Route 46 parking lot, sources with direct knowledge of the incident told Daily Voice.U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents with a mobile unit were en route, they said.

"It was believed the owner of the vehicle was involved in some type of meth lab," one source said after more than a dozen emergency agencies converged on the parking lot of the Tilted Kilt restaurant at the Ramada Inn beginning just after 9:30 p.m.

"They're interviewing him now," a second source told Daily Voice just after midnight.

Patrons and employees were kept inside the restaurant and hotel, those at the scene said.

Joining Wayne police, federal agents and the bomb squad were New Jersey State Police, a Passaic County hazardous materials unit, local firefighters and the state Department of Transportation (for traffic control), among other responders.
