CLIFTON, N.J. -- Clifton police said Friday that they hadn't ruled out robbery as a motive for a pre-dawn attack on a 54-year-old city man walking to work.
The victor told police he was in the area of Gregory Avenue and Summer Street around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when he was jumped from behind, Lt. Robert Bracken said Friday.
Responding officers found him "bleeding profusely from the head," having been struck several times with a metal object, Bracken said.
The assailant was described as Hispanic, about 6 fee tall and wearing a dark facial covering and long black coat, he said.
Anyone who saw something or has information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Clifton police detectives: (973) 470-5908 .
