WAYNE, N.J. -- An out-of-county driver who flagged down a Wayne police detective in a marked cruiser to ask for directions turned out to be wanted for burglary, authorities said.
Matthew Kaczka, 30, of Bayonne got the directions and drove off in his 2003 Hyundai Elantra, Capt. Laurence Martin said.
Moments later, Detective Michael Zaccone got a delayed computerized hit indicating that Hudson County authorities wanted the driver on burglary charges, he said.
Sgt. Michael McNiff found the Elantra in the parking lot of a TD Bank branch on Valley Road and identified Kaczka as the target of the alert, Martin said.
Kaczka was carrying eight envelops of heroin -- six of them stamped "%100" and two "GODFATHER" -- along with two vials of cocaine and a hypodermic needle, the captain said.
Kaczka was arrested, processed on drug charges and released on a court summons.
