Englewood public adjustor who scammed insurance companies of $42,000 gets probation

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: An Englewood public adjustor was sentenced to 18 months probation today of scamming more than $42,000 from clients and insurance companies — including one that insured a church in Essex County — by billing for services that were never completed.

Sheena Clarke, 59, was also ordered to surrender her public adjuster’s license, pay $42,519 in restitution and complete 300 hours of community service.

She also paid a $5,125 civil penalty to the Department of Banking and Insurance.

Clarke pleaded guilty on Aug. 13 to insurance fraud after being indicted by an Essex County grand jury in September.

She admitted that, from late July 2005 to mid-August 2010, she submitted property damage claims to four insurance companies claiming that damage was sustained and repairs were completed at properties in Paterson, Newark, Irvington, and East Orange, when, in fact, the work wasn’t done.

Among those scammed: Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, the Philadelphia Contributorship Insurance Company, the Germantown Insurance Company  and Western World Insurance Company.

The case was prosecuted by New Jersey Deputy Attorney General Dennis Kwasnik, with assistance from Detective Nicole Eiker.

Acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Ronald Chillemi also cited the assistance of the insurance companies and Joy Champion of the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
