Police Officers Tomasz Cydik and Michael Kochinski found the Bullens Avenue home vacated when they arrived just after 11 a.m., Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Wayne Volunteer Companies 1-2-3-4-5 responded to what "rapidly escalated to a three-alarm structure fire," Martin said.

"Fire crews worked diligently, restricting the fire damage to one bedroom, with smoke and water damage throughout the house," he said.

The Wayne Fire Bureau was investigating the cause.

The Wayne Memorial Volunteer First Aid Squad also responded.
