Fair Lawn Police Charge Dumont Drug User With Back-To-Back CVS Shopliftings

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Barely 18 hours after Fair Lawn police arrested a Dumont drug user for shoplifting from a local CVS, he was back at it -- at the same store, authorities said Thursday.

Officers stopped a jitney bus just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on Broadway and took 22-year-old Frank Gentile into custody, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Gentile -- who's been arrested on drug-related charges in several towns the past few months -- was carrying more than $300 worth of items taken from the nearby CVS in his backpack, along with heroin and drug paraphernalia, Metzler said.

Police later released him on a court summons.

Officers returned to the CVS just before 2 p.m. the next day and found Gentile on Broadway and Zink Place -- carrying more than $250 of loot, as well as more drugs and paraphernalia, Metzler said.

This time, a judge ordered him held on $500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with various shoplifting and drug-related offenses.

Combined with the bails from previous arrests this year in Dumont, Oradell and Saddle Brook, the amount increased to $2,500.
