Former St. Joe's Regional MC Nurse Charged With Sexually Abusing Patients

PATERSON, N.J. -- A former St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center nurse was charged with assaulting two patients, including a 74-year-old woman in an ER, said authorities who were seeking any other possible victims.

Wilber Hernandez, a 29-year-old Ramapo College graduate living in Perth Amboy, was initially being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick pending a detention hearing after being taken into custody Thursday, authorities said.

A registered nurse, he'd been working at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick the past year, records show.

The first victim, a 49-year-old woman, was assaulted last Oct. 13 in the emergency room at the hospital and the most recent, a 74-year-old woman, on June 20 in the ER, as well, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and New Brunswick Police Director Andrew Caputo said in a joint statement.

Hernandez was suspended from St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick and Maxim Healthcare Services in North Brunswick.

Besides St. Joe's, Hernandez was listed has having worked as an RN at Hackensack University Medical Center and Jersey City Medical Center.
