Indictment: Fair Lawn Man 'Bombarded' Teen With Sex Texts, Sought Tryst

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- A 60-year-old Fair Lawn man tried to lure a 15-year-old girl into a tryst by "bombarding" her with sexually explicit texts, a grand jury charged.

A State Police detective "posed as the girl and continued communication with Carry through text messaging," Porrino said.

Authorities zeroed in on Philip R. Carry, who was an acquaintance of one of the girl's relatives, after Belleville police alerted New Jersey State Police that she'd been getting sexually explicit texts from a man named "Phil," State Attorney General Christopher Porrino said after the grand jury returned an indictment Monday.

A State Police detective then "posed as the girl and continued communication with Carry through text messaging," Porrino said.

Although he knew the victim's age, Carry "continued to send sexually explicit messages and attempted to arrange a meeting with the girl for the purpose of having a sexual encounter," the attorney general said.

Last July, State Police detectives -- along with members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Belleville and Fair Lawn police departments executed a search warrant at Carry’s home, where they seized evidence while arresting him, Porrino said.

The attorney general charged that Carry "bombarded [the] girl with vile, sexually explicit texts and repeatedly asked that she meet him for sex."

He called Carry "a dangerous child predator who belongs in prison.”

Carry remained free on $100,000 bail, posted shortly after last summer's arrest.

He is charged with luring, showing obscene material a minor and trying to show obscene material to a minor.

Porrino asked that anyone with information regarding any other juvenils who might have been in contact with Carry to contact the New Jersey State Police Digital Technology Investigations Unit at (609) 584-5000, ext. 5628.

He praised members of the unit, as well as the Bergen prosecutor's office and Fair Lawn police.

Deputy Attorney General Joseph Remy secured the indictment, Porrino said.

An arraignment hadn't yet been scheduled.
