Loud Muffler Leads Passaic Sheriff's Officer To Heroin In Prospect Park

PROSPECT PARK, N.J. -- A noisy muffler led a Passaic County sheriff's officer to a Wayne montorist who was carrying 94 folds of heroin in a cigarette pack wedged between the driver's seat and the console, authorities said Monday.

Officer Donald Reddin stopped the blue Audi on Haledon Avenue and N12th Street in Prospect Park on Sunday and found the driver extremely nervous when he asked for his paperwork, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.

Reddin obtained consent to search the vehicle and found the drugs and $960 in alleged drug proceeds, both of which he confiscated, the sheriff said.

Christopher Allison was charged with several drug counts -- and issued a summons for having a loud muffler, Berdnik said.
