The fire department responded to heavy fire conditions at 178 Columbia Avenue shortly after 10 p.m., Dept. Chief Allan Roman said.

While the flames spread from the second to the third floor, there was no reported damage to the adjacent buildings.

"There was exposure in-between to prevent that from happening," Roman said.

The fire was under control by within the hour, the Deputy Chief said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was still under investigation, Roman said.

Responders from Clifton and Carlstadt assisted.
