Passaic Sheriff's Officer On Totowa Road Detail Struck, Seriously Injured

TOTOWA, N.J. -- A Passaic County sheriff's sergeant was hospitalized in stable condition with serious injuries after being struck Wednesday night by a vehicle while working a uniformed construction detail in Totowa, authorities said.

The sergeant was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center after being struck just after 7 p.m. iat Totowa Road and Riverview Drive, Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.

"The matter is still under investigation and the Passaic County prosecutor was informed of the situation," the sheriff said Wednesday night.

"I want to commend the Woodland Park Police lieutenant who witnessed the incident and worked quickly to make sure that the sergeant received nearly immediate medical attention," Berdnik added. "I also want to thank St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center for quickly activating their Trauma Response Unit."
