PATERSON, N.J. -- An unlicensed driver wanted on a warrant was quickly sniffed out after trying to give a Passaic County sheriff's officer bogus information during a Paterson traffic stop.
Officer Joseph Parlegreco pulled over a 2007 Lexus at the corner of Market and Clark streets after Kevin D. Williams, 28, ran a red light, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.
Sgt. Carole Monroe helped Parlegreco determine that Williams was lying about his identity -- and had an active warrant out of Passaic, the sheriff said.
"Individuals need to understand that giving false information to law enforcement for the purpose of avoiding apprehension is an extremely serious offense that will not be tolerated in Passaic County," Berdnik said.
The officers charged him criminally with hindering and issued several traffic summonses -- for driving while suspended, careless driving, failing to obey a traffic signal and having tinted windows.
