PATERSON, N.J. — A Paterson man was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for the 2012 murder of his girlfriend in front of her 3-year-old granddaughter.
Raheem Jones, 37, stabbed 39-year-old Latasha Smith 11 times in her kitchen following a December 2012 dispute, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
Smith called 911 before she died and said her boyfriend attacked her, Valdes said.
Jones' trial started in September 2015 and he was found guilty of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, the prosecutor said.
Jones' sentence requires he serve 75 years without parole eligibility, Valdes said.
