The police spotter activation system pointed officers to 30 Rose Street, where it reported five shots fired at 7:10 p.m. Monday, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.
Units coordinated their efforts to find a Toyota Corolla that fled down Summer Street towards 20th Avenue and stopped it five minutes later in the 900 block of East 19th Street, Speziale said.
"Inside the vehicle in plain view was an Uzi assault rifle on the seat with a loaded 25-round magazine," he said.
Charged with possession of an assault rifle and a high-powered magazine, among other offenses, were Feliz Marquez, 23, and Ricardo Burgos-Polanco, 21, both of Paterson, and Jose A. DelaCruz, 22, of Brooklyn.
"The manner in which this entire incident transpired embodied the spirit of team work, cooperation and professionalism and is a shining example of law enforcement working at its highest level," Speziale said. "The courage and selfless disregard for personal safety displayed by the officers involved is indicative of the dedication of the men and women of the Paterson Police Department."
