PATERSON, N.J. -- A nearly 60-mile trip ended in arrests for a Pennsylvania trio after Passaic County sheriff's detectives caught them buying heroin in Paterson, authorities said Tuesday.

The narcotics detectives were watching the area of East 36th Street and 20th Avenue early Monday evening when they spotted a familiar face: 21-year-old Edward Martinez of Passaic, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.

Miller, whom they charged with selling two bricks of heroin in February, was "pacing back and forth while on the phone and looking in all directions," Berdnik said.

A Jeep then pulled to the curb and a passenger -- identified as Mark Conklin, 26 -- waved Miller over and gave him $500 cash in exchange for two bricks of heroin, the sheriff said.

Detectives moved in and found Conklin carrying 120 bags altogether, he said.

They arrested him, as well as his two associates -- Kathleen Johnston and Joshua Babcock ( mugshot above ), both 22 -- all of Dingmans Ferry, the sheriff said.

They also arrested Miller, who was holding nearly $1,000 in cash and another 10 bags of heroin, he said.

Johnson and Babcock were charged with loitering with the intent to commit a drug offense and were later released.

Miller was released, too, pending a detention hearing, after detectives charged him with having and selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

Conklin, who was charged with possession of heroin, was taken to the Passaic County Jail on outstanding warrants for failing to answer previous drug charges in court, Berdnik said.
