Police: Paterson Ex-Con Busted With Loaded Gun, Heroin

PATERSON, N.J.– A 23-year-old Paterson man on probation for previous drug charges was carrying $2,000 worth of heroin and a loaded .380-caliber handgun when he was arrested Thursday, authorities said.

Detectives saw Damir Horne-Casper in the area of East 42nd Street and 18th Avenue in Paterson placing several items into his pocket, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.

They turned out to be 500 folds of heroin, he said.

Eighty more heroin packets and the gun were found at Horne-Casper’s E. 23rd Street apartment, Berdnik said.

Police charged him with drug and weapons offenses, the sheriff said.

“It is disturbing that this suspect was on probation for narcotic charges, had a loaded handgun and was still selling drugs,” Berdnik said.

The sheriff's Bureau of Narcotics was scoping the area after neighbors called to complain about drug activity there, he said.
