Comert Comertogullari, 37, was charged with “knowingly committing five or more acts of insurance fraud” in the story he gave the insurance company to collect more than $1,000, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

Police in Woodland Park arrested Comertogullari after a Sept. 15 crash and charged him with several offenses -- operating a motor vehicle under the influence, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing to submit to a breath test, Valdes said.

“Those charges were resolved in Woodland Park Municipal Court,” the prosecutor said.

Comertogullari later “made five or more false and/or misleading statements of fact to his insurance company regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash in an attempt to wrongfully collect repair benefits,” she said.

He was released on a court summons.

Valdes asked that anyone with additional information about the incident contact her investigators on the department’s tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or via tips@passaiccountynj.org.
