Lt. William Rausch stopped their 2001 Toyota Corolla after a short chase Monday afternoon and, with help from backup officers, found the driver, 26-year-old Shajar Pujols, and passenger Christopher Rodriguez, 21, carrying the weapons and masks, Detective Walter Richmond said.

Pujols had a semi-automatic 9mm Smith & Wesson reported stolen out of Palmetto, FL and loaded with seven full metal jacket bullets, Richmond said.

Rodriguez had a .22-caliber Jennings handgun loaded with four hollow-point and two full metal jacket bullets, he said.

Each gun had a round in the chamber, the detective said.

Both men were taken to the Passaic County Jail pending detention hearings.

Pujols was charged with eluding, receiving stolen property and weapons offenses. He also received several motor vehicle summonses, Richmond said.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, was charged with illegal possession of the gun and hollow-point ammo.

Detectives were awaiting the results of ballistics tests while trying to determine the origin of both guns and whether they'd been used in crimes.
