PATERSON, N.J. -- An inspector found decomposed human remains in Paterson's old downtown police headquarters Monday night, NorthJersey.com reports.
Suspicion is that the victim was homeless and snuck in after the Washington Street building was boarded up after a fire in 1979, the Tuesday morning report says .
A medical examiner would have to conduct an autopsy as part of an effort to determine cause of death, how long the body was there -- and possibly who it is, it says .
The remains were found around 5:15 p.m. Monday during an inspection for the building's new owners, Capt. Richard Reyes told NorthJersey.com .
