Shoplifting? How About Drugs, Brass Knuckles, $3,329 Cash, Wayne Police Say

WAYNE, N.J. -- You never know where a shoplifting arrest can lead, said Wayne police who arrested two accused department store thieves -- one of whom they said were carrying several bags of pot for sale, brass knuckles and $3,329 in cash.

Receipts showed that Ignacio Quiroz, 21, spent several hours at the Willowbrook Mall on Tuesday, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

He was joined at some point by Kenneth L. Grant, 25.

Security officers at Lord & Taylor who detained them in the middle of the afternoon said the pair had been "wandering the store taking items into the fitting room and exiting the store without paying," collecting more than $550 worth of merchandise, Martin said.

Police took them into custody and found Quiroz carrying the pot, the prohibited weapon and the cash, along with three Oxycodone pills, he said.

One plastic sandwich size bag was filled with marijuana, while two others -- as well as two smaller bags -- were partially filled, the captain said.

Grant was charged with shoplifting and Quiroz with a variety of drug, weapons and shoplifting offenses, he said.

Bot were released on summonses pending hearings under New Jersey's new bail reform law, authorities said.
