PATERSON, N.J. -- Two students in a program for high-school dropouts in Paterson had to be revived Thursday morning while three others were also hospitalized as a precaution after they all smoked synthetic marijuana, officials confirmed.

The circumstances prompted Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale to assign his Narcotics Unit to investigate -- ordinarily not the protocol in ODs.

Three of the victims in the YouthBuild program -- which works mostly with adults -- were underage, he noted.
