Officers Anne Shivas and Gregory Halligan were responding to the complaint of a defiant trespasser who'd been banned from the property -- identified as Jessie Simunovich, 23, of North Caldwell -- when they Halligan saw him and another man injecting heroin in Lord & Taylor's second-floor bathroom stalls, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

The second man, Michael Liska, 24, of Hopatcong, took off, knocking over store clothing racks in a bid to escape, Martin said.

Security guards helped the officers nab Liska, while Simunovich was taken into custody without incident, he said.

Police seized 17 bags of heroin stamped “GOLD MIND,” a trio of small black cylinders containing crack, a bag of pot and four hypodermic needes -- three of them capped and one loaded diwh heroin, Martin said.

Liska was charged with possession of each of the various drugs, as well as of the needles and drug paraphernalia, the captain said.

Simunovich was charged with defiant trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had an outstanding warrant out of West Caldwell, he said.
