Wayne Police Nab Accused 'Booster Crew' Shoplifters On Route 80

WAYNE, N.J. -- Wayne police pulled over a getaway car and arrested two accused members of a "booster crew" centered in the Rockland and Orange county (NY) area -- one of them from Mahwah -- who'd just stolen several pairs of high-priced sneakers, authorities said Monday.

Officers Lorenzo “Larry” Passano, Brian Bradford and John Barrows stopped the white Nissan Altima with New York license plates on eastbound Route 80 around 5:30 p.m. Sunday after it left the Wayne Towne Center, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Moments earlier, James R. Taylor, 32, of Mahwah and a 28-year-old companion, Joseph C. Stoveken of Garnerville, stole $270 worth of sneakers from the JC Penny store, he said.

Stoveken was processed and released pending an appearance in Superior Court in Paterson, the captain said.

Taylor, meanwhile, was taken to the Passaic County Jail because he had two outstanding warrants -- one from Hawthorne and the other from Passaic, he said.

Both were charged with shoplifting.
