Victor Sanchez of West New York activited the courtroom metal detector Thursday afternoon, drawing the attention of Officers Scott Agnes and Michael Polifrone, Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Noticing he appeared drugged, the officers interviewed Sanchez, the captain said.

He told the officers he had a syringe in his back pocket "but possessed a valid needle exchange card," Martin said.

Searching him, they found the heroin in folds stamped with a red flame, the captain said.

A judge ordered Sanchez held in the Passaic County Jail pending a bail detention hearing on drug charges, Martin said.
